ICC Reprimands Sidra Amin After Pakistan’s Loss to India
Pakistan’s veteran batter Sidra Amin received a reprimand from the International Cricket Council (ICC) following her team’s disappointing 88-run defeat to India in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 held at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on October 5, 2025. Despite Amin’s commendable performance, scoring 81 runs off 106 balls, her efforts were overshadowed by a lack of support from the middle order, resulting in Pakistan being bowled out for just 159 in their chase of 248 runs.
In the match, Amin formed a crucial partnership of 62 runs with Natalia Parvaiz for the fourth wicket. This collaboration kept Pakistan in contention until Parvaiz’s dismissal, which left Amin to shoulder the burden alone. The team’s batting struggles were evident as they lost wickets rapidly, further complicating their pursuit of the target.
Reason for ICC Reprimand
The ICC reprimanded Sidra Amin a day after the match for violating its code of conduct. Amin was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel. This article pertains to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
Amin’s reprimand stemmed from her actions after her dismissal, where she slammed her bat on the ground in frustration. This act was deemed as dissent and brought the game into disrepute, violating the ICC’s code. The on-field umpires charged her, and Amin accepted the charge, acknowledging her misconduct. As part of the sanction, she received a reprimand and one demerit point, which will remain on her disciplinary record for the next 24 months.
Pakistan’s World Cup Struggles
Pakistan’s performance in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 has been less than ideal. The team faced a tough start, having been assigned Colombo for their group-stage matches due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. This venue choice followed an agreement between the BCCI and PCB after Team India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
In their opening match against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s batting lineup faltered significantly, leading to their dismissal for just 129 runs, resulting in a seven-wicket defeat. The subsequent match against India further highlighted ongoing issues, with the team again struggling to build necessary partnerships and ultimately falling short of the target.
Historically, Pakistan has struggled in the Women’s ODI World Cups, having lost 29 out of 32 matches played, leading to a win percentage of only 9.37%. The team, led by Fatima Sana, will be looking to turn their fortunes around in their next match against the defending champions, Australia, scheduled for October 8, 2025, at the same venue.
The challenges facing Pakistan in this tournament reflect not just on the individual performances but also on the broader issues within the team’s batting strategy. The upcoming matches will be critical in determining their standing in the tournament as they strive for improvement and success on the international stage.
