Deepti Sharma Shines with Best Fielder Medal in India’s Victory Over Pakistan

India’s senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma was awarded the Best Fielder medal following her impressive performance in India’s dominant 88-run victory over Pakistan during the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup. The match took place at the R Premadasa Stadium on October 6, 2025. Deepti received the accolade from wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, who herself was recognized in the tournament’s opening match.
Deepti’s standout moment came with a remarkable direct hit that resulted in the dismissal of Muneeba Ali. Muneeba had initially grounded her bat but was run out when Deepti’s throw struck the stumps at the precise moment her bat was airborne. This key play underscored her sharp fielding skills, contributing to India’s commanding win.
In addition to her fielding prowess, Deepti also played a significant role with the bat, scoring 25 runs off 33 balls. India set a competitive total of 247 runs and subsequently bowled out Pakistan for 159, marking their 12th ODI victory over their long-time rivals.
The excitement surrounding the match was palpable, with Deepti expressing her gratitude in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). “God is great,” she stated, reflecting on her contributions to the team.
Team Performance and Coaching Praise
Despite some concerns regarding their overall fielding performance, India’s fielding coach Munish Bali commended the efforts of Deepti, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. He noted their critical catches and run outs, highlighting their ability to perform under pressure. “Shabaash (excellent) girls, well done. Back to back wins – took six catches, and two run outs,” he remarked, acknowledging the team’s collective effort.
Deepti’s excellent slip catch and awareness during the run out were particularly praised, showcasing her all-round capabilities on the field.
India’s emphatic win not only boosts their morale but also positions them at the top of the tournament standings. In contrast, Pakistan finds themselves in sixth place without a win so far in the competition.
Looking ahead, India will face South Africa at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on October 9, followed by a highly anticipated match against the defending champions, Australia, on October 12.
As the tournament progresses, fans are eager to see how India continues to perform, especially with players like Deepti Sharma leading the charge.
