The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4, but uncertainty surrounds the participation of Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons. Quarterback Dak Prescott expressed confidence in Parsons’ readiness despite the ongoing contract negotiations that have sidelined the player during training camp.

Parsons is currently in a hold-in situation as he awaits a contract extension. He has not participated in practice sessions this summer, and reports indicate that no discussions have taken place regarding his contract. The Cowboys seem inclined to have Parsons play under the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, a decision that Jerry Jones, the team owner and general manager, has supported. Jones has also rejected any suggestions of a trade request made by Parsons.

Despite the ongoing contract situation, Prescott does not view the matter as a distraction for the team. “There’s been a case of something similar to this the last three years, I believe, if not before,” Prescott stated. He emphasized that the situation is part of the dynamics within the team and expressed his trust in Parsons’ commitment.

Parsons’ teammate and close friend, Trevon Diggs, shared his concerns regarding Parsons’ absence. “I just hope we get everything worked out, we get everything situated. All the guys miss him,” Diggs said. He underscored the importance of Parsons’ presence on the field, noting, “Everybody wants him out there. I just hope that everything gets handled so we can just go out there and win.”

Diggs also mentioned that Parsons has been working out independently throughout training camp. While Parsons did not attend the media-accessible portion of practice on Monday, he was seen present at the session’s conclusion. “I know he’s working,” Diggs added. “He wants to get out there bad. I know what type of person he is, know what type of hard worker he is.”

When asked about Parsons’ previous trade demand made on August 1, Diggs reiterated Parsons’ dedication to the team. “I’ve heard him say before, he plays the game for us,” he explained. “We go out there sweating, blood, sweat and tears. We work out together, training together. So it’s really him being with us at the end of the day. I know for sure he wants to be out there with us. This is home. This is family. So why wouldn’t he want to be here?”

As the Cowboys prepare for their first game of the season, the outcome of Parsons’ contract situation remains uncertain. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful for a resolution that will allow the talented edge rusher to join the team on the field for what promises to be an exciting matchup against the Eagles.
