Aerial Powers Joins Indiana Fever Ahead of Key Matchup
The Indiana Fever has announced the signing of guard Aerial Powers on a seven-day hardship contract as the team prepares for a significant matchup against the Minnesota Lynx on August 24, 2024. This addition comes after Powers was waived by the Golden State Valkyries on June 25, following her participation in only two games this season.
Powers, who was originally selected fifth overall in the 2016 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings, brings with her extensive experience from nine seasons in the league. She has previously played for the Washington Mystics, where she was part of the team that clinched the WNBA Championship in 2019, as well as spending a season with the Atlanta Dream and three seasons with the Minnesota Lynx.
The 5-foot-11 player will don number 23 for the Fever, a number that connects her to her new team’s legacy as they seek to improve their standing in the league. Throughout her career, Powers has averaged 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, showcasing her versatility and offensive skills.
Upcoming Game at Target Centre
The Fever’s upcoming game against the Lynx is set to take place at the Target Centre in Minneapolis at 19:00 local time. This matchup is particularly poignant for Powers, who returns to face her former team. The game promises to be a critical moment for both teams as they navigate the competitive landscape of the WNBA.
In addition to her signing, an old interview featuring Aerial Powers has gained popularity on social media. During the 2024 All-Star Weekend, Powers interacted with fellow players Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Clips from this candid conversation were shared widely, highlighting Powers’ engaging personality. The footage, originally from her YouTube channel, captures a light-hearted exchange where Powers asks Clark about her first All-Star experience and Boston about her feelings regarding the festivities in Phoenix.
Powers’ ability to connect with fans and fellow players alike adds to her appeal as she steps into her role with the Fever. As the team looks to elevate its performance in the upcoming games, the addition of a player with such a rich background and experience could be a turning point in their season.
With the WNBA playoff race heating up, all eyes will be on the Fever and Powers as they aim to make a significant impact in the league.
