University of Kashmir Launches Three-Day Data Analysis Workshop
The University of Kashmir (KU) commenced a three-day national workshop on “Mastering Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel” on November 24, 2023, at its Main Campus in Srinagar. The workshop aims to enhance analytical skills among participants, focusing on using Excel to facilitate informed decision-making through hands-on practice and collaborative learning.
Enhancing Data Literacy
During the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor of KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasized the importance of data literacy in today’s academic and professional environments. She stated, “In today’s academic and professional landscape, data literacy is no longer an additional skill; it is essential.” Prof. Khan added that workshops like this one are crucial for helping students and professionals transform raw data into meaningful insights.
Prof. Khan also highlighted the University’s commitment to expanding practical, skill-oriented training across various disciplines. The need for such initiatives was echoed by Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Prof. Khursheed Butt, Dean of College Development Council. They noted that enhancing analytical capabilities enables students, scholars, and professionals to implement data-driven approaches in their research, administration, and industry-related tasks.
Keynote Address and Workshop Details
In his keynote address, Prof. Narain from the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Delhi underscored Excel’s status as one of the most widely used analytical tools. He stated that effective data analysis is essential for evidence-based decision-making across various sectors.
Earlier in the event, Prof. Pervaz Ahmad Shah, Head of the Department of Commerce at KU, welcomed attendees and highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts to integrate practical skill-building modules into academic programs and training activities. The workshop features intensive hands-on training sessions covering data handling, analytical functions, visualization techniques, dashboards, and problem-solving exercises.
Participants in this workshop include students, scholars, and professionals from both within and outside the University. The inaugural session attracted deans of various schools, faculty members, scholars, and students, highlighting the event’s significance in advancing data analysis skills in the region.
