New AI Program Enhances Healthcare Professionals’ Skills

A new 10-week online program is set to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in artificial intelligence (AI). Developed by faculty from Johns Hopkins University, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between healthcare and technology. The program, in collaboration with a global edtech company, aims to equip physicians, researchers, and policymakers with essential AI capabilities applicable to various aspects of healthcare, including diagnostics, hospital operations, drug discovery, and personalized care.

The global market for AI in healthcare is projected to grow at an annual rate of 38.5 percent until 2030, highlighting the urgent need for such training programs. Paul Huckett, Associate Dean at Johns Hopkins Engineering Executive and Professional Education, emphasized that the future of healthcare will hinge on effectively adopting emerging technologies. The initiative aims to cultivate leaders capable of using AI to transform patient care, strengthen health systems, and promote responsible innovation.

Program Curriculum and Structure

Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of AI, including machine-learning models, predictive analytics, and diagnostic forecasting. The curriculum also covers large language models, ethics, regulations, and the human factors that influence AI adoption. Additional modules focus on epidemiological modeling, common pitfalls in AI implementation, and best practices for managing electronic health records.

The program employs a blend of video lectures, mentored sessions, and live masterclasses. Real-world case studies will illustrate how AI can enhance disease prediction, streamline clinical workflows, and support personalized care. By engaging with practical applications, learners will develop a comprehensive understanding of how AI can be effectively integrated into healthcare settings.

Professionals who successfully complete the course will earn a Certificate of Completion along with six Continuing Education Units from Johns Hopkins University.
