Mysuru Hosts First Annual India BioImaging Meeting to Boost Research
The city of Mysuru recently hosted the inaugural Annual India BioImaging Meeting (IBIAM 2025) on December 10, 2025. This event, organized by the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER) in collaboration with India BioImaging (IBI) and IISER Pune, aimed to establish Mysuru as a pivotal hub for advanced biological imaging research. The two-day conclave attracted facility managers, imaging experts, and representatives from 22 prominent imaging cores across India.
The meeting, supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, focused on formulating a cohesive national strategy to enhance access to high-end microscopy and standardize training programs within the field. During the event, delegates engaged in discussions about strengthening networking opportunities, resource sharing, and fostering research collaboration among imaging facilities nationwide.
A significant component of the meeting was a pre-conference workshop on advanced microscopy techniques held on December 10, organized by the University Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre (USIC) at JSS AHER. This workshop provided young researchers and faculty members with hands-on experience in systems such as Spinning Disc Confocal Microscopy, 3D Holotomography, and Hybrid Microscopy. The workshop benefited from the support of industry technology partners, further enhancing the learning experience.
In a notable development during the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Euro-BioImaging and India BioImaging. This agreement is seen as a significant step forward in fostering collaboration between India and Europe in the field of imaging research. H. Basavanna Gowdappa, Vice Chancellor of JSS AHER, and other key stakeholders were present to witness this landmark agreement.
As the first of its kind in India, IBIAM 2025 not only highlights the growing importance of biological imaging research but also underscores the commitment of Indian institutions to advance scientific collaboration and technology transfer. The gathering of experts and the signing of the memorandum signal a promising future for imaging research, with the potential to enhance the quality of research and education in the field across the country.
