Kauvery Hospital Unveils Advanced Sports Medicine Center in Chennai

Kauvery Hospital in Vadapalani, Chennai, has officially launched the Kauvery-SAC (Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Center), a facility designed to transform joint care in the region. This state-of-the-art center specializes in advanced minimally invasive procedures and cartilage regenerative therapy, focusing on preserving joint health, particularly for younger patients.
The center utilizes arthroscopy, a procedure that employs keyhole incisions along with 3D cameras and specialized instruments. Globally, more than five million arthroscopic procedures are performed each year, which provide patients with recovery times that can be up to 50 percent faster than traditional open surgeries. Despite these benefits, awareness of arthroscopy remains limited in India, where it is often primarily associated with athletes.
Kauvery-SAC aims to broaden the understanding and application of arthroscopy, offering treatment options for sports injuries, degenerative conditions, and routine joint pain. “We are not just offering treatment, but building an ecosystem around recovery,” stated Ravi Sankar Kirubanandan, Senior Consultant in Orthopaedics. He highlighted that arthroscopy leads to quicker rehabilitation, allowing patients to walk within six hours post-surgery. This technique benefits not only athletes but also elderly individuals and homemakers suffering from chronic joint issues.
The initiative aligns with a broader vision of creating centers of excellence in healthcare. Aravindan Selvaraj, Executive Director and Co-founder of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, emphasized the significance of comprehensive care. “Joint problems limit not just mobility, but also independence and livelihood,” he remarked. The new facility ensures that patients receive world-class technology and structured rehabilitation to enhance their recovery experience.
The launch event was graced by renowned cricketer Sai Kishore, who underscored the importance of making sports medicine accessible to a wider audience beyond just professional athletes. His presence at the inauguration symbolizes the bridging of gaps between elite sports and public health, encouraging the community to prioritize joint health and recovery.
As Kauvery-SAC opens its doors, it presents an opportunity for residents of Chennai and surrounding areas to access advanced treatments that can significantly improve their quality of life. The center’s commitment to innovation in joint care marks a significant step forward in the evolving landscape of healthcare in India.
