ISRO Set to Launch AST SpaceMobile’s BlueBird Satellite on December 24
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to launch a communication satellite for the US-based company, AST SpaceMobile Inc., on December 24, 2025. The mission will utilize the LVM3 rocket and is designated as LVM3-M6. The launch is set for 08:54 hrs IST from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC SHAR) in Sriharikota.
This mission marks a significant milestone as it represents a dedicated commercial launch of the BlueBird Block-2 satellite, based on a commercial agreement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). The LVM3-M6 mission highlights ISRO’s growing role in the international satellite launch market.
Advanced Technology for Global Connectivity
AST SpaceMobile emphasizes that its next-generation BlueBird satellites are designed to provide 24/7 high-speed cellular broadband directly to smartphones around the globe. These satellites will feature nearly 2,400 square feet of phased array technology, making them the largest commercial phased arrays ever deployed in low Earth orbit. This surpasses the previous record held by their first-generation BlueBird satellites, which measured 693 square feet.
The deployment of these advanced satellites aims to enhance connectivity in areas where traditional cellular networks are limited. By enabling direct communication with everyday smartphones, AST SpaceMobile seeks to bridge the digital divide and provide reliable mobile internet access to underserved regions.
The launch of LVM3-M6 not only underscores the capabilities of ISRO but also reflects the strategic partnerships being formed in the space industry. As countries and private entities increasingly collaborate, the race for space-based communication technology intensifies.
ISRO’s commitment to facilitating commercial satellite launches contributes significantly to its reputation as a reliable partner for international space missions. With its successful track record, ISRO is poised to play a crucial role in advancing global communication infrastructure through innovative satellite technology.
