International Conference Advances Scientific Ties Between India and Japan

The International Conference on Frontier Areas of Science and Technology (ICFAST 2025) concluded on March 15, 2025, at the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) after two days of significant scientific discussions. This event strengthened academic ties between India and Japan, featuring a diverse range of topics in cutting-edge research.
The conference opened with an inauguration led by Nobel laureate Yoshino Akira and E.D. Jemmis from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru. Their presence underscored the event’s commitment to fostering collaboration among scientists from both nations. A standout feature of the conference was the outreach program titled ‘Igniting Young Minds.’ In this initiative, Prof. Akira engaged with school students during an interactive session, aiming to inspire the next generation of scientists.
Key Sessions and Cultural Highlights
The first day of ICFAST 2025 included plenary talks from esteemed experts such as Prof. Hiroshi Abe and Prof. A. Jayakrishnan. Following the academic sessions, attendees enjoyed a cultural evening that showcased the rich heritage of Kerala, highlighting local art and traditions.
The second day featured an extensive range of research presentations. Discussions spanned various topics, including nano-ZnO metagenomics, sustainable catalysis, biomedical innovation, and economic security. Keynote speakers included Prof. Mako Nakamura from Kyushu University, Prof. Nandakumar Kalarikkal from MGU Kerala, Prof. Kaushik Chatterjee from IISc Bengaluru, and Prof. Warisawa Shin’ichi from the University of Tokyo.
A poster session also provided a platform for young researchers to present their work and engage directly with experienced experts. This interactive format allowed for meaningful dialogue and feedback, further enriching the conference experience.
Impact and Future Prospects
The successful conclusion of ICFAST 2025 highlights the importance of international collaboration in scientific research. By bringing together leading minds from India and Japan, the conference has laid the groundwork for future partnerships and advancements in various scientific fields.
The emphasis on youth engagement through programs like ‘Igniting Young Minds’ reflects a commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists, ensuring that the field continues to evolve and thrive. As the global scientific community moves forward, the connections made during this conference may yield significant innovations and breakthroughs in the years to come.
