The Government of Andhra Pradesh has established a high-level advisory committee aimed at advancing its green hydrogen initiatives under the “Green Hydrogen Valley – Amaravati” program. This decision follows the Green Hydrogen Summit held at SRM University in Amaravati in July 2025, where the state outlined its ambition to become India’s largest hub for green hydrogen by the year 2030.

As detailed in G.O. Ms. No. 82 issued by the Energy Department, the newly formed committee will provide guidance on technology adoption, research, and the development of infrastructure necessary for the production, storage, and application of green hydrogen. The committee will be chaired by Dr. V.K. Saraswat, a member of NITI Aayog, with K. Vijayanand, the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, serving as Co-Chairman. Dr. M. Kamalakar Babu, the Managing Director of NREDCAP, will take on the role of Member-Convener.

The advisory panel will also include senior government officials, scientists, and industry leaders from respected institutions such as CSIR-NCL in Pune, the Ministry of Railways, the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, SRM University, Greenko, and ReNew Power. These members are expected to collaborate closely to facilitate the growth of the green hydrogen sector in the region.

To ensure the initiative remains on track, the committee will conduct annual progress reviews and summits at SRM University. Officials noted that this initiative is designed to foster clean energy innovation, create green job opportunities, and enhance Andhra Pradesh’s position in India’s transition towards a sustainable hydrogen economy.

The formation of this advisory committee represents a significant step forward in Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to clean energy and environmental sustainability. By prioritizing green hydrogen, the state aims not only to contribute to India’s energy needs but also to set a benchmark for similar initiatives across the country.
