The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is poised to form a new government in Bihar following a significant victory in the recent assembly elections. Shahnawaz Hussain, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced that the government would work diligently to fulfill the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly in areas of development and job creation.

In an interview with the Asian News International (ANI), Hussain stated, “The NDA has achieved a resounding victory in Bihar and soon the NDA government will be formed. Just as the people of Bihar have voted with faith, we will live up to that trust.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to setting up industries and providing employment opportunities in the state.

Leadership Structure and Political Alliances

The leadership structure of the new government is also taking shape. Jitan Ram Manjhi, the chief of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) or HAM(S), confirmed that Nitish Kumar will continue to be the Chief Ministerial candidate. Manjhi met with Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister and BJP Bihar election in-charge, in Delhi to discuss the political landscape, though he clarified that discussions would not revolve around ministerial positions.

“We will not discuss any ministerial position. I need to discuss certain issues with him. One thing is clear: Nitish Kumar will be the face for the Chief Minister’s post,” Manjhi said. His remarks indicate a strategic focus on leadership unity within the NDA, while also highlighting the party’s history of patience regarding ministerial appointments.

NDA’s Electoral Performance

The NDA secured a remarkable 202 seats out of the 243-member Bihar Assembly, achieving a three-fourths majority. This represents the second time the NDA has crossed the 200-seat threshold in assembly elections, the last occurrence being in the 2010 elections when they won 206 seats. In contrast, the opposition coalition, known as the Mahagathbandhan, managed to secure only 35 seats, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leading the group with 25 seats.

This electoral outcome underscores the NDA’s strengthened position in Bihar politics, setting the stage for a government focused on fulfilling its development agenda. The coalition aims to address pressing issues in the state, including economic growth and employment, as part of its commitment to the voters.

The announcement of the NDA government comes at a pivotal moment in Bihar’s political landscape, offering a glimpse into the future priorities of the region as it moves forward from the election results.
