Congress Responds Strongly to Digvijaya Singh’s Praise for BJP-RSS
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has stirred controversy within his party after expressing admiration for the organizational strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His comments, made during a recent public address, have led to significant backlash from fellow party members, highlighting existing divisions within the Congress Party.
In response to Singh’s remarks, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera issued a pointed critique, emphasizing the historical context of the RSS. Khera remarked, “There’s nothing to learn from the RSS. What can an organisation known for Godse teach an organisation founded by Gandhi?” This statement references the controversial figure of Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, and underscores the deep ideological rifts that persist in Indian politics.
The remarks by Singh, a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, have led to a renewed examination of the Congress Party’s stance on its rivals. Critics argue that praising the RSS and BJP could alienate the party’s base, which is traditionally aligned with the principles of secularism and pluralism that Gandhi espoused.
The Congress Party, once the dominant political force in India, has been struggling to maintain its relevance in a landscape increasingly dominated by the BJP and its affiliates. Singh’s comments may signal a strategic shift or a personal ideological endorsement, but they have resulted in a swift pushback from party colleagues who fear that such statements could undermine the party’s core values.
Khera’s remarks were made during an interaction with the media on December 28, 2025, and were widely disseminated through various news outlets, including the news agency ANI. The public response to Singh’s endorsement of the RSS has sparked a heated debate about the future direction of the Congress Party and its approach to rival political factions.
As the political landscape in India continues to evolve rapidly, the Congress Party finds itself at a crossroads. The internal conflict raised by Digvijaya Singh’s praise for the BJP and RSS highlights the challenges faced by the party in reconciling differing viewpoints within its ranks while attempting to present a united front to the electorate.
