BJP Unveils Ambitious Development Plans for Thiruvananthapuram
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has launched its manifesto for the upcoming Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections, outlining a series of ambitious development initiatives aimed at transforming Kerala’s capital into a model city. A highlight of the manifesto is the proposal to establish an Olympic venue in Thiruvananthapuram for the 2036 Olympic Games.
The manifesto states, “We will request the central government to bring one of the venues of the 2036 Olympics in India to Thiruvananthapuram. This will empower the sporting ambitions of the city’s youth.” With slogans like “We want a developed Thiruvananthapuram” and “What hasn’t changed will change now,” the NDA is clearly positioning itself for a transformative agenda.
Immediate Development Goals
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP state president, presented the manifesto, which includes a commitment to publish a comprehensive city development plan within 45 days of assuming office, should the NDA secure victory. The party aims to position Thiruvananthapuram among India’s top three cities by 2030.
The manifesto emphasizes the delivery of central government schemes to every household. Key initiatives include enhanced treatment at family health centres, 24-hour doctor services, and the establishment of Common Service Centres (CSCs) in all wards. These steps aim to improve healthcare access and streamline service delivery for residents.
Governance and Technological Innovations
The BJP has pledged to ensure a corruption-free administration through the implementation of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. Notable measures include providing services directly to citizens’ doorsteps, eliminating the need for office visits. Additionally, the manifesto proposes the introduction of annual development progress cards to track advancements.
Flood prevention projects, modeled on successful initiatives in Surat, are also a focal point, alongside a commitment to provide homes for the homeless within five years with support from the central government. The goal is to facilitate 100% online financial transactions between citizens and the corporation, simplifying interactions and promoting transparency.
Environmental conservation and tourism development are also integral to the manifesto. The BJP plans to clean and protect local water bodies, such as the Amayizhanjan Canal and Parvathi Puthannaar, while improving solid waste management practices. Alongside these efforts, the party seeks to promote pilgrimage tourism around significant sites, including the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Beemapally, Vettukad, and Attukal.
The BJP’s proposals reflect a comprehensive vision for the future of Thiruvananthapuram, aiming not only for infrastructural improvements but also for enhanced quality of life for its residents. As the elections approach, the effectiveness of these promises will be under scrutiny, as citizens weigh the potential impact on their city’s development.
