Tragic Truck Accident Claims Three Lives Near Varanasi

Three members of a family tragically lost their lives in a road accident when a truck struck them near Revsa village in Chandauli, India, early on Tuesday morning. The victims, identified as Kumari Devi (52), her daughter-in-law Chandni (27), and her grandson Saurabh Kumar (7), were on their way to celebrate Chhath Puja. The incident occurred around 05:00 hours as they emerged from a temple, attempting to cross the national highway.

According to Aditya Langeh, Superintendent of Police in Chandauli, the truck was speeding when it collided with the three individuals, resulting in their immediate deaths. Following the impact, the truck veered off course, hitting a nearby temple, a kiosk, and a motorcycle. The driver fled the scene shortly after the incident, leaving the scene of the accident.

Local residents alerted the police, who arrived promptly and arranged for the bodies to be sent for postmortem examinations. Witnesses reported that the area surrounding Revsa and Pachpedwa on the Varanasi-Chandauli highway is notorious for accidents due to the lack of a service road, a factor that has contributed to multiple incidents in the past.

Residents expressed frustration over the government’s inaction, stating that a service road would significantly reduce the risk of future accidents in this hazardous area. The absence of adequate infrastructure has turned this stretch of road into a dangerous blackspot, raising concerns regarding public safety.

The loss of three lives during a festive occasion highlights the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
