Sikhs in Telangana Commemorate 350th Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur
Sikhs in Telangana are set to observe the 350th Martyrdom of the Ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, from November 23 to 30, 2023. This week-long event will pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice for religious freedom through various activities, including Nagar Kirtans, Vishal Kirtan Darbars, and mass congregations. The celebrations are organized by the Prabandhak Committee of Gurudwara Saheb Sitaphalmandi in Secunderabad, in collaboration with all Sikh Gurudwaras across the region.
The commemorative events will include a Kirtan Darbar on November 23, scheduled from 11:00 to 14:30. A vibrant Nagar Kirtan procession will take place on November 25, beginning at Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad at approximately 16:30. The week will culminate with a Vishal Kirtan Darbar on November 30, held at NTR Stadium in Indira Park, running from 10:30 to 17:00.
In addition to the martyrdom remembrance, the Gurudwara will also celebrate the 350th Gurta Gaddi of Sri Guru Gobind Singh, marking his installation as the tenth Sikh Guru. Harpal Singh, chairman of the organizing committee, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming events, emphasizing the importance of honoring their religious heritage and Guru Tegh Bahadur’s legacy.
The observance aligns with broader efforts within the Sikh community to foster unity and promote values of tolerance and freedom. Participants are expected to come together in large numbers, reflecting the deep reverence for their Gurus and the principles they stood for. The week’s activities will provide an opportunity for both community members and visitors to engage in spiritual reflection and celebration of their cultural identity.
This significant observance not only highlights the historical impact of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for religious freedom faced by many around the world today. The events planned in Telangana are poised to draw attention and participation, reaffirming the Sikh community’s commitment to their faith and heritage.
