Naad Bhed Dance Studio Celebrates 10 Years with Katha 2025

Naad Bhed Dance Studio is set to mark its 10th anniversary with a captivating performance titled “Katha 2025.” This Kathak dance drama, which pays tribute to the poet and devotee Bhakta Salabega, will take place at Ravindra Bharathi on August 23, 2025.
Founded in 2015 in Secunderabad, Naad Bhed has become a significant hub for Kathak dance in the region. The visionary behind this anniversary celebration is Guru Archana Misra, a renowned Kathak dancer from Berhampur, Odisha. With a Master’s degree in Performing Arts (Kathak) and training from esteemed figures like Pt. Birju Maharaj, Misra aims to bring the inspiring story of Bhakta Salabega to life through dance.
The narrative centers on Bhakta Salabega, a 17th-century poet whose unwavering devotion to Lord Jagannath transcended religious boundaries. Born around 1600 AD to Lalbega, a Mughal subedar, and a Hindu Brahmin widow, Salabega was raised in a Muslim household. His mother’s deep spirituality and devotion to Lord Krishna and Jagannath profoundly influenced his life.
As a young man, Salabega faced significant trials, including being gravely wounded in battle. It was during this time that he experienced a miraculous recovery, which he attributed to the power of chanting the name of Vishnu. This pivotal moment solidified his faith and devotion, leading him to become a revered figure in the Odisha spiritual landscape.
The performance, “Katha 2025: A Tribute to Lord Jagannath & Devotee,” not only celebrates the artistic achievements of Naad Bhed but also serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage embodied by Salabega’s life and works. The dance drama will showcase the intricate movements and storytelling elements characteristic of Kathak, drawing audiences into the emotional and spiritual journey of Salabega.
The event is expected to draw a diverse audience, reflecting the universal appeal of Salabega’s story and the artistry of Kathak dance. As Naad Bhed Dance Studio continues to inspire through its performances, “Katha 2025” represents a significant milestone in its journey, highlighting the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering community and artistic expression.
This performance promises to be a memorable occasion for both the studio and the attendees, as it not only commemorates a decade of dedication to dance but also honors the enduring legacy of a remarkable poet and devotee.
