Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Pays Tribute to Shivraj Patil, 90
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to the late Congress leader Shivraj Patil, who passed away at the age of 90. Patil died at his residence in Latur, Maharashtra, earlier on Friday, following a period of illness. Fadnavis expressed profound sorrow at the news of Patil’s death, underscoring the significant impact he made throughout his political career.
In a heartfelt message posted on X, Fadnavis referred to Patil as a leader who left an indelible mark through his various roles, including serving as Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Home Affairs, and Defence, as well as Governor. He remarked, “The news of the passing of senior leader Shivraj Patil is extremely heartbreaking. As the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Home Affairs and Defence, Governor, and in various other roles, he left an indelible mark of his personality through his work.”
The Chief Minister highlighted Patil’s commitment to public service and his innovative contributions to parliamentary proceedings. He described Patil as a principled and well-informed leader who commanded respect across the political spectrum. “As a personality who upheld the prestige of Maharashtra’s political culture, he will forever remain in our memories. I offer my heartfelt tribute to him. We share in the grief of his family members. Om Shanti,” Fadnavis stated.
Shivraj Patil was born on October 12, 1935, in the village of Chakur, located in the Latur district of Maharashtra. His political career spanned several decades, during which he held key positions that shaped Indian politics. Known for his steadfast leadership, Patil’s influence extended beyond party lines, and he was respected for his ability to articulate positions firmly.
As the Lok Sabha Speaker, he played a pivotal role in promoting various initiatives within the House, contributing to the development of parliamentary procedures. Fadnavis noted that Patil’s passing signifies the loss of a towering figure in both politics and social affairs, stating, “With his passing, we have lost towering, guiding leadership in politics and social affairs.”
