The Adani Group has announced a substantial investment of ₹1.8 trillion in defense manufacturing, aiming to enhance its capabilities in unmanned and autonomous systems as well as advanced guided weapons. This initiative, set to unfold in 2024, marks a significant step in the company’s ambition to cater to the evolving demands of modern warfare.

According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), the investment will prioritize the development of technologies that align with future military operations. The focus areas include artificial intelligence-enabled multi-domain operations, sophisticated sensors and electronics, and extensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) training infrastructure. This strategic move underscores the Adani Group’s commitment to becoming a pivotal player in the defense sector.

Adani’s Military Hardware in Action

In 2025, several military equipment developed by Adani Defence were utilized during Operation Sindoor, highlighting the practical application of its technologies. The company’s Drishti 10 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were integrated into both the Indian Navy and Indian Army, serving vital roles in long-range intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.

Adani’s innovations also include counter-drone systems that have successfully completed trials with the Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Notably, the Agniveer loitering munitions have demonstrated their effectiveness in electronic warfare scenarios, while the ARKA MANPADS shoulder-fired missile system has been designed for use across all three branches of the military.

The Future of Autonomous Systems

Autonomous systems are revolutionizing military operations by functioning independently in air, sea, and land environments. These systems utilize advanced sensors, sophisticated software, and secure communication networks to operate with minimal human intervention. The deployment of such technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also safeguards soldiers in the field.

In aerial operations, drones are employed for reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision support, often maintaining prolonged flight durations. On the water, unmanned vessels execute surveillance tasks, engage in underwater combat, and conduct mine clearance operations. On land, small autonomous vehicles assist with logistics, reconnaissance, bomb disposal, and border security.

The Adani Group’s strategy includes a targeted expansion of its drone capabilities across air, land, and sea, with a goal of capturing a 25% share of the private defense market by 2026. This ambitious plan is indicative of the company’s intent to solidify its position as a leader in the defense manufacturing sector.
