Uttar Pradesh Police Launches Statewide Wellness Camp for Officers
The Uttar Pradesh Police has initiated a statewide wellness camp aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of police personnel and their families. This significant effort, organized by the Uttar Pradesh Police Family Welfare Association, known as VAMA Sarathi, took place on October 1, 2023, under the guidance of Meenakshi Singh, the wife of UP’s Director General of Police, Rajeev Krishna.
The camp, executed in collaboration with Dr Lal Path Labs, spanned across 34 districts and attracted a total of 9,527 participants, which included 5,326 men, 2,145 women, and 213 children. This initiative provided comprehensive diagnostic tests, health check-ups, and crucial awareness about preventive healthcare, focusing on the timely identification of potential health issues.
Wide Reach and Participation
The wellness camp was conducted in various districts, including Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Prayagraj. In Lucknow alone, 311 participants took advantage of the services, while other districts reported significant turnout as well: Meerut had 140 participants, Kheri saw 225, Sultanpur recorded 175, Bulandshahr had 160, and Jhansi welcomed 332 participants.
This camp marks the first large-scale health initiative of its kind for the Uttar Pradesh Police, providing access to state-of-the-art diagnostics at highly subsidized rates. The effort reflects a commitment to improving the physical and mental wellness of police personnel, which is critical for enhancing operational efficiency.
Organizational Support and Oversight
The planning and supervision of the wellness camps were coordinated by the VAMA Sarathi Health and Wellness Committee, which includes the wives of senior police officers such as Chetna Gupta, Richa Chaudhary, Dr Komal, Akanksha Gupta, and Arunima. The local execution of the camps was managed by Charu Gaba, the secretary of VAMA Sarathi, along with the heads of local chapters.
The camp’s objective extends beyond immediate health checks; it aims to foster a culture of health awareness among police personnel and their families. By addressing both physical and mental health needs, the initiative strives to uplift the well-being of those who serve on the front lines of public safety.
