Police Investigate Murder of 10-Year-Old Boy in Prayagraj
Police in Prayagraj are facing challenges in solving the murder case of a 10-year-old boy, whose body was discovered over 24 hours after he went missing. The child, reported missing on October 14, 2023, was found about 200 metres from his home in the Maheva Purav Patti area, under the jurisdiction of the Naini police station. His death has raised alarm and concern within the local community.
The boy, a fourth-grade student, was last seen leaving his home on Friday evening to buy mehendi from a nearby shop. According to the autopsy report, he suffered injuries to his neck, with strangulation identified as the primary cause of death. A formal complaint (FIR) has been filed at the Naini police station against unknown individuals for his murder.
Investigation Underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police for Yamuna Nagar, Vivek Chandra Yadav, confirmed that investigators are diligently working to gather evidence. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage from local shops, which shows the boy arriving at a grocery store with Rs 10 to purchase mehendi. Notably, the footage indicates he did not return home but instead headed in the opposite direction.
“Cops are taking assistance from electronic equipment to find clues, and teams are working in the right direction,” said DCP Yadav.
As the investigation continues, police teams are employing various methods to uncover leads that could help identify those responsible for the crime. The family of the young victim, who asked him to run the errand, stated they had no known enemies, indicating that this tragedy came as a shock to them.

The incident has stirred a sense of fear and concern among local residents. The loss of such a young life has resonated deeply, prompting discussions about safety in the area. Many community members are calling for increased police presence and better security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
