Ganga Hospital Launches Month-Long Breast Cancer Awareness Exhibition

A month-long exhibition dedicated to breast cancer awareness was inaugurated at the Ganga Breast Care Centre in Coimbatore on October 6, 2025. This initiative marks the observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and aims to educate the public on crucial aspects of breast cancer detection and management.
The exhibition was formally opened by Kanagavalli Shanmuganathan, Chairman of Ganga Hospital, who was joined by S. Raja Sabapathy, Director of the hospital, and Raja Shanmugakrishnan, an oncoplastic breast surgeon. Together, they emphasized the importance of early detection and awareness in combating breast cancer.
Key Features of the Exhibition
Central to the exhibition are informative displays that highlight the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, as well as methods for early detection. A significant focus is placed on the importance of self-breast examinations for women aged 18 and older. To further illustrate the detection process, a mammogram model has been set up, reinforcing the recommendation that women aged 40 and above should undergo a mammogram at least once a year.
Another highlight is a section dedicated to advances in breast cancer treatment, particularly showcasing the DIEP flap technique. This advanced microsurgical procedure helps restore a woman’s appearance post-treatment, enhancing her confidence and quality of life. The exhibition also provides insights into managing lymphedema, which is characterized by swelling in the upper limbs, a common consequence of breast cancer treatment.
Addressing Myths and Promoting Awareness
The exhibition seeks to dispel common myths surrounding breast cancer and chemotherapy, aiming to provide accurate information to attendees. By fostering a better understanding of the disease, the event encourages proactive health measures among women and their families.
Overall, the Ganga Breast Care Centre’s exhibition serves as a vital resource for education and support, inviting the public to engage with crucial health information and take charge of their breast health. This initiative reflects Ganga Hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving cancer awareness and patient care within the community.
