Ed Sheeran Reveals Health Routine Transforming His Tour Life
Ed Sheeran is transforming his approach to health and fitness while on tour, adopting a disciplined routine that includes post-show massages and reformer pilates. The Grammy-winning artist acknowledges a significant change from his earlier lifestyle, which he describes as unhealthy. Speaking to Men’s Health magazine, Sheeran explained that these new habits are crucial for maintaining his energy and vocal performance during live shows.
In a candid reflection on his past, Sheeran shared that his earlier years were marked by excess. “I played three nights in a row and each morning I’m getting interviewed and they’re like, ‘How was last night?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I was out until 6 a.m. doing tequila shots and smoking cigarettes,’” he recalled. This rigorous routine, which he followed for seven days a week, took a toll on his health.
Commitment to Health and Performance
Now, Sheeran prioritizes his wellbeing, particularly after performances. He emphasized the importance of post-show massages, stating, “You just want to go to bed or go for a drink with your mates… but if you don’t do it, you’re just… the next day.” This self-awareness drives him to spend an hour on the massage table following each gig. He noted that this practice not only aids in voice maintenance but also helps him recover his energy.
The singer’s commitment to a healthier lifestyle has been influenced by his recent viewing of a ten-year-old documentary about his life on tour. He remarked on the visible impact of his previous habits, saying, “When you watch it and you look at me now, I look 40 in that and I look 24 now.” This reflection has motivated him to continue prioritizing his health as he navigates the demands of touring.
Embracing New Fitness Techniques
In addition to massages, Sheeran has found that reformer pilates offers a gentle yet effective way to stay fit while on the road. “Reformer is definitely tied into touring,” he said. After a demanding show, he prefers this low-impact exercise to traditional weightlifting. “The last thing I want to do today is bench press and deadlift,” he explained, highlighting how pilates allows him to burn calories while stretching and recovering.
As Sheeran continues to evolve both personally and professionally, his dedication to health serves as an inspiring example for others in the entertainment industry. By prioritizing wellness, he ensures that he is not only ready for the physical challenges of live performances but also fostering a sustainable lifestyle for the future.
