Dr. Shiran Shetty Advances Cancer Care with Training in Japan
Dr. Shiran Shetty has successfully completed an advanced endoscopy workshop at the Osaka Cancer Center in Japan, enhancing his expertise in cancer detection and treatment. The workshop, guided by esteemed endoscopist Prof. Noriyo Udeo, focused on innovative techniques for early cancer detection and minimally invasive treatment options, aligning with the mission of Kasturba Medical College in Manipal to uphold global healthcare standards.
Innovative Techniques for Early Detection
During this intensive program, Dr. Shetty honed his skills in next-generation image-enhanced endoscopy. This breakthrough technology allows for improved detection of early-stage pathologies, including cancers, without the need for biopsies. Such advancements enable healthcare professionals to identify subtle lesions at a crucial stage when treatment is most effective, significantly enhancing patient outcomes.
Early diagnosis is pivotal in combating gastrointestinal cancers, and Dr. Shetty’s training equips Kasturba Medical College with refined diagnostic capabilities. He also underwent specialized training in Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), a cutting-edge technique that enables the removal of early-stage cancers while preserving the organ’s natural structure. This organ-preserving method is recognized for its effectiveness, offering patients faster recovery times and a reduced risk of complications.
Enhanced Cancer Care in Manipal
With the skills acquired from this workshop, Dr. Shetty returns to Manipal with a unique set of capabilities, available in only a select few centers across India. Kasturba Medical College is now positioned as the only institution in the region equipped with state-of-the-art endoscopic technologies, capable of performing sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
This advancement not only bolsters the institution’s reputation as a leader in gastrointestinal and liver care but also ensures that these advanced procedures are accessible at affordable prices. Dr. Shetty emphasizes the importance of early screening and intervention, encouraging the public to utilize these facilities, which can be life-saving.
His achievement represents a significant milestone for the region, allowing patients to access international-level cancer care closer to home and reinforcing Kasturba Medical College’s commitment to delivering excellence with compassion.
