Triptii Dimri Expresses Desire to Portray Icons in Meena Kumari Biopic
The anticipation surrounding the upcoming biopic of legendary actress Meena Kumari is growing, with Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani emerging as potential leads. Reports indicate that while Sanon has been a favored choice for some time, Advani has recently entered the conversation and is nearing a deal to take on the iconic role.
In a related development, actress Triptii Dimri, known for her upcoming film Dhadak 2, shared her aspirations to portray Meena Kumari or another celebrated star, Madhubala, in a biopic. At a recent press event, Dimri expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I would love to do a biopic. I’m a huge fan of Meena Kumari ji and Madhubala ji. If someone makes a biopic on either of them, I would love to be a part of it. They were legends, icons – and portraying them would be an honour.”
Challenges in Acting and Personal Aspirations
Dimri elaborated on the pressures of acting, emphasizing that the experience is often intense and requires deep immersion in the role. She remarked, “Honestly, when you’re acting, there’s so much pressure in the moment. It’s not like someone else’s face comes into your mind – you’re just reacting to your co-actor, your lines, your scene. Still, playing either of them would be such a learning experience.”
Meena Kumari, born Mahjabeen Bano, is often referred to as Hindi cinema’s “Tragedy Queen.” Her career is marked by powerful performances in classics such as Baiju Bawra, Parineeta, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Kaajal, and Pakeezah. Her life story, filled with remarkable artistic achievements and personal challenges, continues to resonate with filmmakers and actors today.
The biopic on Meena Kumari is currently in development, led by filmmaker Sidharth P. Malhotra in collaboration with Saregama, with support from the family of her late husband, Kamal Amrohi. This project aims to bring Kumari’s legacy to a new audience, highlighting her significant contributions to the film industry.
As the conversation around the biopic evolves, it remains to be seen who will ultimately take on the role of Meena Kumari, but the interest from emerging talents like Triptii Dimri underscores the enduring impact of these legendary figures in cinema.
