Mohanlal Meets Army Chief to Celebrate Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Actor and honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army, Mohanlal, met with the Chief of Army Staff in New Delhi on October 7, 2025, to receive commendation following his recent Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The meeting provided a platform to discuss matters concerning the efficiency of the Territorial Army (TA) and allowed the actor to express his gratitude for the recognition.
Mohanlal shared his thoughts with ANI after the meeting, stating, “It is a great recognition and so much honour to receive a commendation from the Army Chief. The Dadasaheb Phalke award is also one of the reasons. So, we had a good meeting and had a small lunch. It’s a great gesture from the fraternity.” This event not only highlighted his cinematic achievements but also his ongoing commitment to the TA.
Mohanlal’s Honorary Role and Contributions
Mohanlal’s association with the Territorial Army began in 2009, when he was officially appointed as an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel at a ceremony led by General Deepak Kapoor, who was then the Chief of the Army Staff. He became the first Indian actor to receive such an honour, recognizing his significant contributions to Malayalam cinema and his promotion of patriotic values.
Throughout his tenure, Mohanlal has actively participated in various TA events, often donning the uniform during public appearances associated with military operations. His dedication was particularly evident in August 2024, when he visited the landslide-affected district of Wayanad. There, he engaged with Army soldiers in uniform, showcasing his support for their efforts.
The recent meeting with the Army Chief further solidified the bond between Mohanlal and the military community. During their discussions, the focus was not only on his achievements in cinema but also on strategies to enhance the operational effectiveness of the TA battalion. His insights, drawn from his experiences as both an actor and a public figure, may contribute to future initiatives aimed at bolstering the Army’s presence and efficiency.
This gathering served as a reminder of the intertwining paths of art and service, demonstrating how cultural icons like Mohanlal can play a pivotal role in fostering a spirit of patriotism and community support. As he continues to bridge the gap between the entertainment industry and the military, Mohanlal’s contributions remain a source of inspiration for many in both fields.
