Mangaluru Police Set Strict Guidelines for Safe New Year Celebrations
As the New Year approaches, the Mangaluru City Police have announced a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order during the festivities. These measures come as a response to the anticipated increase in celebrations across the city.
Under the new regulations, hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, and other venues planning to host New Year events must secure prior approval from the respective Assistant Commissioners of Police. Applications for this permission must be submitted no later than December 23, 2023, by 17:00 local time. Any establishment that fails to comply will face legal action, reinforcing the importance of adhering to these regulations.
All celebrations must conclude by 12:30 AM on January 1, 2024. After this time, no events will be permitted, and the use of loudspeakers and sound systems will require specific permission, in accordance with the Noise Pollution Rules, 2000 and directives from the Supreme Court. Notably, the use of DJs has been expressly prohibited.
In an effort to curb illegal activities, the police have implemented a complete ban on the possession and consumption of narcotic substances during the celebrations. Additionally, organizers must ensure that activities such as obscene dances, gambling, and other immoral conduct are not part of their events. The sale and distribution of alcohol will only be allowed with valid permits from the Excise Department.
Public spaces, including bus stands, parks, playgrounds, and railway stations, will be off-limits for smoking and alcohol consumption. The police have emphasized that strict measures will be taken against individuals exhibiting unruly or antisocial behavior, particularly among students and youths.
To enhance safety, event organizers are required to implement robust security measures. This includes the provision of fire safety equipment, emergency medical services, and sufficient parking facilities to facilitate smooth traffic flow. Furthermore, events offering food and beverages must restrict entry to attendees under the age of 18.
A special task force will be active during celebrations to address concerns regarding harassment or violence against women and girls. This initiative aims to ensure a safe environment for all participants.
To combat the issue of drunk driving, a dedicated rapid response team comprising traffic police and specialists will conduct checks throughout the city. Vehicles operated by individuals under the influence of alcohol will be seized, and offenders will be prosecuted under relevant drink-and-drive laws.
The police have reiterated their stance against dangerous driving behaviors, such as stunt riding and excessive speed. Teams will be deployed to monitor and prevent these activities, which pose significant risks to public safety. Additionally, the use of firecrackers that disrupt public peace is strictly prohibited.
These guidelines reflect the Mangaluru City Police‘s commitment to fostering a safe and enjoyable New Year celebration for all residents and visitors. The police have called for cooperation from the community and event organizers to ensure a peaceful and joyous transition into the new year.
