Kratika Sengar Remembers Late Father-in-Law Pankaj Dheer on Diwali
The Bollywood community is mourning the loss of veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, who passed away on October 15, 2023, after battling cancer. His death left a profound impact on his family and fans, particularly during the festive season of Diwali, a time traditionally celebrated with family gatherings and joy.
This year, Kratika Sengar, Dheer’s daughter-in-law and a prominent actress, took to social media to express her sorrow on the occasion. Reflecting on the emotional weight of the festival without her father-in-law, she shared a poignant message alongside a picture of a lit diya. “Only when you lose someone you love, you realise how heavy the festivals can feel,” she wrote, accompanied by a heartbroken emoji.
Dheer’s passing came shortly after he underwent surgery as part of his cancer treatment. His contributions to Indian cinema spanned over four decades, during which he became well-known for his role as Karna in B. R. Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat. His portrayal of memorable characters in various television series, including Chandrakanta, Bado Bahu, and Sasural Simar Ka, solidified his status in the industry. Additionally, he starred in notable films such as Baadshah, Soldier, and Zameen.
On October 17, the Indian Film and Television Fraternity came together in Mumbai to pay their respects to Dheer. A prayer meet was organized by the Dheer family, attended by several of his colleagues and friends. Notable figures present included filmmaker Rohit Shetty and actors Sharad Saxena, Suresh Oberoi, Isha Deol, and Mohit Raina, among others. This gathering celebrated Dheer’s life and the lasting impact he had on Hindi cinema.
Pankaj Dheer is survived by his wife, Anita Dheer, son Niketan Dheer, and granddaughter Devika, who is just three years old. Niketan, following in his father’s footsteps, is recognized for his role of Thangabali in the film Chennai Express. The family is now navigating the difficult journey of remembrance during this festive period, feeling the absence of a beloved patriarch.
As the film industry reflects on Pankaj Dheer’s legacy, his contributions will continue to resonate with fans and fellow artists alike. His impact on Indian television and film remains significant, ensuring that he will be remembered fondly by many.
