DC Studios Reveals First Trailer for ‘Supergirl’ Starring Milly Alcock
DC Studios has officially launched the first trailer for its upcoming film, Supergirl, featuring a fresh portrayal of the iconic character. The teaser was released online on March 14, 2024, following an exclusive screening in Manhattan that included attendance from co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, director Craig Gillespie, and lead actor Milly Alcock.
The trailer highlights Alcock’s character, Kara Zor-El, as she embarks on a journey to establish her own identity within the expansive DC Universe. This narrative will diverge from her cousin Superman’s traditionally optimistic perspective. Set to the classic track “Call Me” by Blondie, the footage opens with a disheveled Kara celebrating her birthday alongside her super-powered dog, Krypto.
Director Gillespie emphasized the film’s focus on Kara’s personal struggles, describing it as an “anti-hero story.” He noted, “She’s got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this, which is very different from where Superman is in his life.” This exploration of internal conflict sets the stage for a unique take on the superhero genre.
The trailer transports viewers through gritty, intergalactic landscapes filled with morally ambiguous humanoid aliens. These environments bear a resemblance to the chaotic settings found in Gunn’s previous work on Guardians of the Galaxy. The preview also offers a fleeting look at Jason Momoa as Lobo, a cigar-smoking, motorcycle-riding anti-hero that Gunn has envisioned since taking charge at DC Studios.
Fans can anticipate the film’s release in theaters on June 26, 2026. As the anticipation builds, this latest adaptation of Supergirl promises to offer a fresh perspective and deeper character exploration, setting it apart from other portrayals in the superhero landscape.
