Actor Peter Greene, Star of Pulp Fiction and The Mask, Dies at 60
Actor Peter Greene, known for his memorable portrayals of villains in iconic films, has passed away at the age of 60. His manager, Gregg Edwards, confirmed to NBC News that Greene was found dead in his apartment located in the Lower East Side of New York City on December 12, 2023. The cause of death remains undetermined, although initial reports indicate that his passing does not appear to be suspicious.
Neighbors reportedly alerted authorities after hearing Christmas music playing continuously from Greene’s apartment for several days. According to the Daily News, police have scheduled an autopsy to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death.
Greene gained fame for his roles as the sadistic security guard Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s groundbreaking 1994 film Pulp Fiction and as the antagonist Dorian Tyrell in the same year’s comedy classic, The Mask, starring Jim Carrey. Throughout his career, Greene’s talent for portraying complex villains made him a notable figure in the film industry. He appeared in several other acclaimed movies, including The Usual Suspects (1995), Judgment Night, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, Training Day, and The Bounty Hunter.
Legacy and Upcoming Projects
In recent years, Greene took on the role of Uncle Charlie in the John Wick prequel spinoff television series The Continental. Edwards expressed his admiration for Greene, stating, “Nobody played a bad guy better than Peter. But he also had, you know, a gentle side that most people never saw, and a heart as big as gold.”
Edwards further mentioned that Greene had been scheduled to star in an upcoming film titled Mascots, alongside actor Mickey Rourke, which was set to commence filming next year. He noted that Greene had two other potential projects in development, highlighting the actor’s continued relevance in the industry.
Greene’s unexpected death has left colleagues and fans in shock as they remember a performer who brought depth and intensity to his roles. His contributions to cinema, particularly as a compelling antagonist, will be remembered by audiences for years to come.
