The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revised its list of paid parking zones in Salt Lake, introducing eight new areas while removing four previously designated locations. This update brings the total number of fee parking zones to 18 throughout the township, reflecting ongoing consultations with the Bidhannagar traffic police.

The newly identified stretches include several key areas, such as the side road between Sech Bhavan and Indira Bhavan, as well as both sides of GD Island to Labony Island, excluding a 25-metre section in front of Banchharam. Additional newly designated zones encompass the stretch from near the gate of Mother International School to CL-34, the areas surrounding Salt Lake Point School, and the vicinity of the Aurobindo Institute at BL Block.

Omissions from the previous list include stretches such as the both-flanks area from Bidyadhari School to Vidyasagar Island under the metro alignment and the section from Yellow Straw Shop to Shiva Temple at DB Block. The BMC has also stipulated that no parking is permitted in front of school gates, with a strict 15-minute limit for student pick-up and drop-off.

Details on the Parking Zones

Among the 10 previously established paid parking zones that remain unchanged are the service road from JC-25 to Aranya Bhaban, the surroundings of Lady Queen of the Mission, and the area from Tank No 13 to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. These zones were designed to accommodate the increasing number of cars and bikes parked during daytime hours.

To facilitate the management of these parking zones, the BMC plans to provide a mobile application. This app will need to be downloaded by the designated controller of each parking area to monitor the flow of vehicles entering and exiting. An official from the BMC stated, “The civic authorities have the right to realign the zones in public interest during significant events such as pujas or melas.”

The implementation of these changes aims to enhance traffic management and ensure orderly parking in Salt Lake, contributing to the overall development of the area. As the BMC continues to adapt its strategies, residents and visitors can expect an organized approach to parking in this bustling township.
