BJP’s Sachdeva Supports Electoral Roll Revision in Delhi

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has expressed strong support for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program initiated by the Election Commission. This initiative aims to ensure the integrity of electoral rolls in the national capital. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, has started preparations to implement the SIR, which is designed to update and verify the voter lists.

Sachdeva criticized opposition from leaders such as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who have voiced concerns about the SIR program. He emphasized that the BJP has consistently worked to maintain the accuracy of the voter list in Delhi over the past two decades.

In recent Assembly elections, Sachdeva highlighted issues uncovered by the party, revealing that as many as 60 to 100 votes had been registered at single addresses. He alleged that fraudulent house numbers were created to generate votes from specific communities, undermining the democratic process.

The BJP leader noted that since 2014, there has been a significant increase in registered voters, with 1.3 million (13 lakh) added during the 2015 Assembly elections and over 800,000 (8 lakh) during the 2020 Assembly elections. Investigations suggested that many of these new registrations included individuals who were not residents or citizens of Delhi.

To address these concerns, Sachdeva stated that the BJP had submitted a comprehensive complaint to the Election Commission, comprising approximately 10,000 pages of evidence gathered by party workers at the booth level. He criticized the AAP and Congress for allegedly making enticing promises that led to fraudulent voter registrations.

The SIR process in Delhi will reference the 2002 voter list. Individuals listed in that year will only need to complete an enumeration form, while those not listed must provide documentation, such as a copy of their parents’ names from the same list.

Sachdeva assured that BJP workers would assist voters throughout the SIR process, emphasizing the party’s commitment to ensuring that the electoral rolls reflect only legitimate voters in the national capital. He remarked, “Fake or fraudulent votes are a stain on democracy — something both Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution and democracy itself do not accept.”

He concluded by reiterating the BJP’s commitment to supporting the Election Commission during the SIR, aiming to guarantee that every voter in Delhi receives rightful representation.
