The superhero film Lokah Chapter 1, directed by Dominic Arun and featuring Kalyani Priyadarshan, has achieved remarkable success at the box office, quickly becoming the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. With collections nearing ₹250 crore, the film is only the second in the Malayalam industry to reach this significant milestone.

In its third weekend since release, Lokah Chapter 1 earned ₹17.70 crore net in India, marking a decline of less than 40% from the previous weekend. As of now, the film has grossed ₹122 crore net (approximately ₹139.6 crore gross) in India, positioning it among the top Malayalam films in terms of box office performance.

International Success and Comparison with Peers

The film’s international box office performance has further contributed to its acclaim, as it has earned over $12 million (approximately ₹109.4 croreLokah Chapter 1 boasts a worldwide gross of nearly ₹249 crore.

During its third weekend, the film surpassed the lifetime collections of notable films such as Mohanlal‘s Thudarum (₹234 crore), Prithviraj Sukumaran‘s The Goat Life (₹160 crore), and Fahadh Faasil‘s Aavesham (₹156 crore). The film has also exceeded the earnings of Mammootty‘s blockbuster Bheeshma Parvam, which grossed ₹89 crore. As of Monday, Lokah Chapter 1 has surpassed Manjummel Boys‘ total of ₹243 crore, securing its place as the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film in history.

The only film ahead of Lokah Chapter 1 is Mohanlal‘s earlier release, L2: Empuraan, which grossed ₹268 crore earlier this year. Given the film’s current trajectory, with earnings between ₹4-5 crore daily worldwide, it is poised to challenge Empuraan‘s record in the coming week.

A Fresh Take on Folklore

Directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, Lokah Chapter 1 features Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role as Chandra, a vampire fighting for good. The film creatively intertwines traditional Indian folklore with modern storytelling, establishing a new cinematic universe.
