Kurukshetra to Establish Green Belt Around Circuit House
The Deputy Commissioner of Kurukshetra, Vishram Kumar Meena, announced plans to develop a green belt around the Circuit House. This initiative aims to enhance the area’s aesthetic and environmental quality. Directions for the project were issued to the relevant department on March 1, 2024.
During a recent sanitation drive, Meena, alongside district officials and members of the Resident Welfare Association from Lotus Green City in Sector 9, focused on improving local cleanliness. The drive, part of the Swachhata Abhiyan, highlighted the need for immediate action against littering and negligence in sanitation efforts.
Meena emphasized that if garbage is discovered near significant locations like the court premises, the new Mini-Secretariat, and the Patwar Khana, notices will be issued to the respective department officials. The Deputy Commissioner also instructed that disciplinary action be taken against three municipal council employees due to their failure to maintain cleanliness standards.
During the sanitation drive, Meena and the team collected garbage from around the Circuit House. He expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Circuit House gardener and municipal council staff, who were criticized for allowing heaps of waste to accumulate both inside and outside the Mini-Secretariat. The Deputy Commissioner mandated that these areas be cleaned immediately.
In addition to addressing existing cleanliness issues, Meena directed the local Forest Department and officials from the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to trim trees around the Mini-Secretariat. He also urged them to enhance the area’s beauty by planting trees along the roadside.
Parking for fruit-selling carts around the Circuit House will be prohibited following complaints that these vendors were contributing to litter. During the drive, Meena engaged with the fruit sellers, warning them of possible penalties if they continued to litter.
District Municipal Commissioner Aman Kumar, CEO of Zila Parishad Shambhu Rathi, and other officials actively participated in the cleanliness initiative. Meena stated, “All efforts are being made to improve the sanitation of Kurukshetra, and duties have been assigned to all departments. With the support of residents, we can enhance cleanliness in our city.”
Earlier directives have called upon Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), the District Municipal Commissioner, executive officers, and civic body secretaries to conduct daily morning walks. They are to assess sanitary conditions and document areas where waste is dumped in open spaces. These officials have been instructed to upload photographs with GPS locations to the Swachhata app to ensure prompt action by civic body employees.
The collective effort reflects a commitment to improving public health and environmental conditions in Kurukshetra, with a focus on community involvement and accountability.
