Akhilesh Yadav Endorses V Sudershan Reddy for Vice President
As the Vice-Presidential elections approach, Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, has officially endorsed V Sudershan Reddy, the candidate from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). This endorsement took place at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Tuesday, just days ahead of the election. Yadav emphasized that the upcoming vote represents “a fight for justice and constitutional values, not merely for power.”
Yadav praised Reddy for his extensive background as a former Supreme Court judge, stating that his commitment to upholding the Constitution and protecting people’s rights positions him as the “best possible choice” for the Vice-Presidential role. Speaking to the media, Yadav remarked, “In the current political scenario, what better option can there be than a judge to lead this battle for justice?”
The Samajwadi Party chief expressed confidence that Members of Parliament will heed their “inner voice” when casting their votes. He stated, “We are confident that those who value justice will listen to their inner voice and vote in his favour.” Yadav also criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that it seeks to align the Vice-Presidential office with a “particular ideology,” which he claimed undermines national interests. “This is not just about victory or defeat; it is about principle,” he added.
In his remarks, Yadav conveyed optimism regarding Reddy’s chances, asserting that he would secure victory “with a historic mandate.” He highlighted Reddy’s achievements as exemplary of the qualities needed in India’s next Vice-President. Yadav also extended his gratitude to leaders from the Congress party, including Pramod Tiwari, for their collaboration in presenting a candidate who embodies constitutional values over party interests.
As the discussion on the Vice-Presidential elections concluded, Yadav reiterated the importance of maintaining the office above partisan politics. He stated, “We are exercising our democratic right to present an alternative. The Vice President’s office is a high constitutional post that must remain above partisan lines.” Earlier this month, Yadav criticized the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh, accusing it of neglecting public welfare amid a growing flood crisis.
This endorsement marks a significant moment for the INDIA bloc as it seeks to unify opposition parties around a candidate who represents a commitment to justice and constitutional integrity.
