Modi and Fiji’s Rabuka Strengthen Ties in New Delhi Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a delegation-level meeting with Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on August 25, 2025. This marks Prime Minister Rabuka’s inaugural visit to India in his current role, having arrived in the national capital on August 24.
During his visit, PM Rabuka paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, an important site for honoring India’s independence leader. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared photographs of the tribute, highlighting Rabuka as a significant partner in the Global South and the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). The MEA’s official post stated, “Welcoming an important Global South and FIPIC partner. PM @narendramodi received PM Sitiveni Rabuka @slrabuka of Fiji at Hyderabad House for delegation-level talks.”
The discussions between the two leaders aimed to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including strategic partnerships and people-to-people exchanges. Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi is set to host a luncheon for Rabuka, further emphasizing the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
Upon his arrival in New Delhi, PM Rabuka was welcomed by Sukanta Majumdar, the Union Minister of State for Education and Development of the Northeastern Region. This visit underscores the strengthening of ties between India and Fiji, with an emphasis on mutual benefits.
Prior to his meeting with PM Modi, Rabuka engaged in talks with JP Nadda, India’s Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. Rabuka was accompanied by Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, Fiji’s Minister of Health and Medical Services, as well as other senior officials. The discussions focused on enhancing healthcare cooperation, an area of increasing importance for both nations.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Minister Nadda shared insights from their conversation: “Met with the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, in New Delhi today as part of our ‘Know BJP’ initiative. Our discussions focused on strengthening party-to-party relations, where I highlighted our party’s ideology, organizational framework, and its role in driving India’s development journey. We also had a detailed discussion on enhancing cooperation in the healthcare sector. Looking forward to deepening our partnership for the mutual benefit of both nations.”
