Members of the Indian women’s blind cricket team celebrated their historic victory at the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup with renowned cricketer Sachin Tendulkar at the MIG Cricket Club in Mumbai on December 17, 2023. This interaction marked a significant milestone for the team, who have become role models for resilience and determination in sports.
Tendulkar dedicated nearly an hour to meet with the champions, offering personal congratulations to each player. During the meeting, he listened attentively as they shared their experiences, including the challenges they faced on their journey to winning the world title. The cricket icon praised the team’s unwavering belief and resilience, emphasizing that their achievement transcended the mere act of lifting a trophy.
He highlighted how the players had overcome substantial obstacles to fulfill their dreams. “Your victory will be remembered long after this tournament,” Tendulkar remarked, underscoring the lasting impact of their success. He also expressed appreciation for the crucial support provided by the players’ families, particularly their parents, for encouraging them to pursue cricket despite any limitations.
Drawing parallels to his own experiences as a World Cup winner, Tendulkar reminded the players that success brings higher expectations and responsibilities. He encouraged them to view their triumph as the beginning of a longer journey—one that holds the potential to inspire countless others in the future.
For the players, the meeting was an emotional highlight. Many described the encounter as a dream come true, providing powerful validation of their hard work. Team captain Deepika TC expressed her gratitude, stating that meeting Tendulkar was an unforgettable experience. She noted that his words of encouragement reinforced the team’s commitment to continue striving for excellence and making India proud.
The interaction concluded with Tendulkar signing autographs and posing for photographs with the team. In a touching gesture, the players presented him with a specially autographed bat as a token of appreciation.
G.K. Mahantesh, president of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), reflected on the significance of the meeting. He noted that Tendulkar’s recognition and support provided a substantial morale boost not only for the World Cup-winning squad but for the entire blind cricket community in India. This moment is one that the team will cherish as they continue their journey in the world of cricket.
