Maratha Empire’s Legacy Set for Global Cinematic Debut in 2026
A significant cinematic project is underway to celebrate the legacy of the Maratha Empire. OthBrok Production LLP has announced the production of a historical feature film titled “रुद्रांश / Rudransh – Legacy of a Great King.” Directed by Mandarr Kaadam, the film is scheduled for a global release in 2026.
This film draws inspiration from the leadership and strategic vision of two of India’s most revered historical figures, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Unlike typical historical dramas, “Rudransh” is committed to authenticity and precision. Over the last five years, the production team has conducted extensive research using various primary sources, including royal correspondence, colonial records, and traditional Maratha bakhars, to ensure a faithful representation of history.
The film aims to not only recount historical events but also to revitalize the narrative of the Maratha Empire within the cinematic landscape. Director Mandarr Kaadam emphasizes the film’s ambition, stating, “Rudransh is not just a film; it is a responsibility. Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, we are committed to bringing truth, not exaggeration, to the screen.”
Exploring Depth and Complexity
“Rudransh” seeks to delve into the emotional and psychological burdens carried by the era’s leaders, soldiers, and civilians. The film will showcase the grit, devotion, and political intricacies that characterized the Maratha Empire, moving beyond superficial narratives. It will highlight key aspects such as battle strategies, administrative systems, and cultural preservation efforts that shaped this influential empire.
One significant focus of the film is the life and challenges faced by Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. His leadership and martyrdom, often underappreciated in mainstream narratives, will receive much-needed attention in this project. The production aspires to create a Pan-India movement, breaking linguistic and geographical barriers. While the original language will be Marathi, the film will also be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and English to reach a broader audience.
A Commitment to Authenticity and Values
The scale of the production reflects its ambition, featuring large-scale battle scenes, historically accurate costumes, and real heritage locations. The aim is to create a cinematic experience that closely mirrors the historical period rather than a fantasy spectacle. Central to the film’s narrative are philosophical values such as justice, duty, loyalty, and collective unity.
“Rudransh – Legacy of a Great King” represents a convergence of history, cinema, and cultural revival. The film’s thoughtful storytelling is designed to inspire younger generations to connect with and appreciate their heritage. It is not merely a recounting of past glories; it embodies themes of identity, resilience, and collective pride.
The production is currently in progress, with plans to distribute the film widely in major Indian and international markets. Festival submissions are also planned ahead of the theatrical release in 2026. This ambitious project is poised to serve as a cultural ambassador for Maharashtra’s martial and spiritual heritage, reflecting the growing global interest in Indian historical storytelling.
