Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping and Impregnating Daughter

Police in Cachar have arrested a man for the alleged sexual assault of his minor daughter, which has resulted in her pregnancy. The accused was taken into custody on Monday night and subsequently presented in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.

The case began when the victim, now 17 years old, filed a complaint against her father after enduring a traumatic two-year ordeal. The police registered the case on January 18, 2023, following the girl’s revelation of the abuse that started in 2022. In her statement, she detailed how her father had forcefully established a physical relationship with her, continuing the abuse for over a month before he fled their residence.

The allegations included threats from the father, who warned the victim against speaking out by threatening to harm her brother. The situation escalated when the girl became pregnant. Seven months into her pregnancy, facing serious health issues, she confided in her aunt, seeking help.

Initially, the aunt contacted a local figure named Das, who reportedly showed indifference and simply advised them to seek medical attention for the girl. Following this, the victim was moved to a relative’s home, where she gave birth to a baby girl. The infant was left in the care of the relatives, while the victim was forced to leave her home to find work.

Unable to reside with her father and facing homelessness, she made the difficult decision to report her father to the police. After fleeing the state to avoid arrest, the accused was eventually located and apprehended by law enforcement.
