Barcelona Fans Disappointed by Ferran Torres’ Inclusion Against Club Brugge
Barcelona fans expressed their dissatisfaction after Ferran Torres was included in the starting lineup for the UEFA Champions League match against Club Brugge on November 5. Traditionally a striker, Torres filled in the role left vacant by the injured Robert Lewandowski, who recently returned from a spell on the sidelines. Despite Torres’s selection, many supporters took to social media platform X to voice their concerns, questioning the decision to start him over Lewandowski.
The starting XI chosen by head coach Hansi Flick included several key players. Wojciech Szczesny was positioned in goal, while the defense featured Alejandro Balde, Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, and Jules Kounde. The midfield trio consisted of Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, and Marc Casado. The attacking front was made up of Marcus Rashford, Torres, and Lamine Yamal.
Responses from fans on X reflected a shared frustration regarding Torres’ place in the lineup. Many supporters noted that with Lewandowski back in the squad, his experience could have made a significant impact. Lewandowski himself had recently commented on the ongoing injury challenges that have plagued the team this season. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he mentioned the absences of key players such as Raphinha, Pedri, and Dani Olmo.
Lewandowski, who had missed several matches due to injury, returned to action against Elche on the preceding Sunday. Although he did not start the match against Club Brugge, there are expectations he might come off the bench later in the game, as Flick manages his reintegration carefully following his recovery.
Barcelona aims to secure a top-eight finish in the UEFA Champions League, which would grant them direct qualification for the Round of 16. After experiencing a disappointing exit in the semi-finals last season, the team is eager to reclaim their status and strive for success in this year’s tournament.
The ongoing discussions among fans underscore the critical role that player selection plays in team performance and morale. As Barcelona navigates through the challenges of this season, the decision to include Torres will be closely scrutinized, especially given the high stakes of the Champions League.
