Uttar Pradesh has reported a significant reduction in deaths caused by dengue and acute encephalitis syndrome (AES), according to Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak. During a recent event, Pathak announced that AES-related deaths have decreased by approximately 98% since 2017, while the mortality rate from dengue has fallen by 93%.

Pathak highlighted improvements in the state’s healthcare delivery, particularly in ambulance response times. He noted that the average response time for 108 ambulance services has dropped from 16.40 minutes to 7.7 minutes. For 102 ambulance services, the response time has improved significantly from 9.5 minutes to 6.25 minutes. “Uttar Pradesh now leads the country in shortest ambulance response time,” he stated.

Infectious Disease Control Initiatives

These announcements were made during the launch of the third phase of the infectious disease control and Dastak Programme in Aliganj. This initiative aims to further curb the spread of infectious diseases and enhance health infrastructure in the state. Pathak expressed confidence in the improvements made since 2017, asserting that the state can now provide quality treatment to its residents.

The infectious disease control campaign is scheduled to run from October 5 to 31, 2023, followed by the Dastak door-to-door campaign from October 11 to 31. During the launch event, officials also introduced new fogging machines intended for anti-mosquito drives, crucial in reducing mosquito-borne diseases like dengue.

Pathak was accompanied by several key officials, including Principal Secretary for Health and Medical Education Amit Ghosh, Director General of Health Dr RPS Suman, and Lucknow Chief Medical Officer Dr NB Singh. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort behind the state’s health initiatives.

The substantial decrease in deaths from these diseases reflects the ongoing commitment of the Uttar Pradesh government to improve public health outcomes. With these initiatives in place, officials aim to maintain and further enhance the state’s healthcare capabilities.
