Speeding Truck Claims Lives of Four Women on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

A tragic accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Sawai Madhopur resulted in the deaths of four women and injuries to two others. The incident occurred on September 6, 2023, when a speeding truck struck the victims near Ghata Nainwadi village while they were walking back from a temple visit.
According to police, the women had disembarked from a tractor-trolley and were walking on foot when the truck, traveling from Bonli, collided with them. The local police, led by Mitrapura Station House Officer Naresh Poswal, confirmed that the victims were identified as Lali Devi, aged 45, her daughter Chaina Meena, aged 20, both from Vijaypura in Dausa district, along with Uganti, aged 30, and Dholi Devi, aged 35, residents of Chimanpura in Lalsot.
The two injured individuals were promptly taken to the Lalsot District Hospital for treatment. Police have since seized the truck involved in the accident and are actively searching for the driver, who fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Witness accounts indicate that approximately a dozen people were returning from the Beejasan Mata Temple when the tragic event unfolded near a culvert. The community is mourning the loss of the victims, who were known to be returning home after a religious visit.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, focusing on the speed of the vehicle and the actions of the driver prior to the accident. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on one of India’s busiest expressways, which has been the site of numerous accidents in the past.
As the investigation continues, local residents are calling for increased safety measures on the expressway to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
