Cold weather conditions have gripped the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana, with dense fog affecting visibility in several areas on December 27. The local meteorological department reported that temperatures have plummeted significantly, causing discomfort to residents across both states.

In Punjab, Ballowal Saunkhri in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district recorded the lowest temperature at 4.4 degrees Celsius. Other notable lows included Amritsar at 5.1 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above the seasonal average, and Ludhiana at 4.6 degrees Celsius. The city of Patiala reported a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, while Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot, and Gurdaspur recorded lows of 5.4, 6, 4.9, and 5.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. The capital city, Chandigarh, experienced a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius.

The situation is similarly chilly in Haryana, where Gurugram emerged as the coldest city, recording a low of 4.9 degrees Celsius. Ambala saw a minimum temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above normal, while Hisar reported 5 degrees Celsius. Other areas, including Karnal, Narnaul, Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Sirsa, recorded minimum temperatures of 8, 5.5, 7.2, 6.5, and 7 degrees Celsius respectively.

The dense fog has created hazardous conditions for travel, leading to reduced visibility and disruptions in transportation. Authorities are advising residents to take precautions to stay warm and to be cautious while traveling.

As the cold wave continues, both Punjab and Haryana are expected to remain under the influence of these chilling conditions, with meteorological forecasts suggesting no immediate relief. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather warnings and take necessary measures to cope with the severe weather.
