India has formalized a significant agreement with the United States, signing a $946 million sustainment deal for its fleet of 24 MH-60R “Seahawk” naval helicopters. Details of the Agreement

Under the terms of the sustainment deal, India will receive extensive support for its MH-60R fleet over the next five years, valued at approximately Rs 7,995 crore. These include the provisioning of spare parts, support equipment, product support, and technical training. Additionally, the deal will facilitate the establishment of intermediate-level component repair and periodic maintenance inspection facilities within India.

The sustainment agreement ensures that the MH-60R helicopters can be serviced and launched from both land bases and warships. This flexibility enhances their deployment capabilities across various mission profiles, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW) patrols, surveillance operations, humanitarian missions, and carrier-based tasks.

India first signed a procurement agreement for the 24 MH-60R helicopters in February 2020, with the initial deliveries occurring in 2021. The Indian Navy’s first squadron, INAS 334, was officially commissioned at INS Garuda in Kochi, marking the operational induction of this advanced helicopter platform.
