Honda Surpasses Hero in Two-Wheeler Sales as Market Grows

The two-wheeler market in India experienced a notable uptick in July 2025, with Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India surpassing Hero MotoCorp in domestic wholesale dispatches. This shift marked a significant change in the competitive landscape, as Honda reported sales of 466,331 units, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. The rise in sales coincided with the introduction of two new models, the Shine 100 DX and the CB125 Hornet, which are priced at Rs 74,959 and Rs 1,12,000 respectively (ex-showroom).
Hero MotoCorp also demonstrated strong performance, with sales climbing 18.7% year-on-year to reach 412,397 units. The company attributed its sales growth to stable retail activity and anticipates further increases as the festive season approaches. Hero launched the HF Deluxe Pro motorcycle at Rs 73,550 and the Vida VX2 electric scooter range, which starts at Rs 44,990 with the Battery-as-a-Service option.
TVS Motor Company reported impressive sales figures as well, with a significant increase of 21.4% year-on-year, totaling 308,720 units in July 2025. The company is set to expand its offerings in the upcoming months, including an adventure tourer motorcycle, electric bicycles, and four new models from the British brand, Norton Motorcycles.
In contrast, Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycle India saw declines in their sales figures. Bajaj’s volumes fell 17.5% year-on-year to 139,279 units, while Suzuki experienced a decrease of 4.5%, selling 96,029 units. Deepak Mutreja, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki, stated, “As we head into the festive season, we remain focused on delivering a seamless and satisfying experience to our customers.”
Royal Enfield also reported strong results, with a 24.6% increase in sales, reaching 76,254 units in July 2025. CEO and Managing Director of Eicher Motors, B Govindarajan, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing demand, highlighting the positive reception of their new motorcycle range on the Sherpa 450 platform and the refreshed Hunter 350. He emphasized the company’s commitment to product innovation and community engagement as key factors in maintaining its leadership in the mid-size motorcycle segment.
Overall, July 2025 marked a promising month for the two-wheeler industry, with several manufacturers reporting growth amidst increasing market competition. Manufacturers are optimistic about sustaining this momentum as they prepare for the upcoming festive season, which traditionally sees heightened consumer activity.
