The 16th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) commenced on August 14, 2025, showcasing a vibrant celebration of cinema. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan made a memorable entrance, accompanied by his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, capturing the attention of festival attendees and fans alike. The couple walked hand-in-hand down the red carpet, exuding charm and style.
Aamir Khan, recognized as one of the festival’s esteemed guests this year, donned a traditional white ensemble layered with a sleek black bandhgala coat. Gauri Spratt complemented his sophisticated look with a vibrant purple bandhni-print salwar suit paired with a beige dupatta, embodying understated elegance. Their chemistry sparked excitement on social media, with videos of their arrival quickly gaining traction.

The festival’s opening day press conference featured a host of notable personalities from the film industry. Among those present were comedian-actor Vir Das, acclaimed performers Tillotama Shome, Jim Sarbh, and Aditi Rao Hydari, along with celebrated filmmakers Shoojit Sircar, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and RS Prasanna, who directed Sitaare Zameen Par. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra also attended, contributing to the event’s star power.

A Celebration of Cinema
The festival runs from August 14 to 24, 2025, featuring an impressive lineup of film screenings, panel discussions, and the annual Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony. This year’s festival is supported by the Victorian Government, which continues to champion cultural initiatives that connect diverse communities through the art of film.
Aamir Khan is currently enjoying the success of his latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, which recently received positive reviews from both critics and audiences. The film had a special screening in Mumbai prior to its theatrical release, attended by Gauri and Aamir’s sister, Nikhat Khan Hegde.
Interestingly, Aamir Khan previously shared his story of how his relationship with Gauri began unexpectedly. During a podcast with Raj Shamani, he mentioned that they met “by mistake,” transitioned from friends to partners, and eventually fell in love.
With Aamir Khan’s presence, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has elevated the celebration of cinema this year, promising an engaging experience for filmmakers and audiences alike.
