Villagers Block Roads in Protest Over Severe Waterlogging

Residents of two villages in the Hisar and Bhiwani districts of Haryana have blocked key roads in a protest against severe waterlogging that has persisted for nearly ten days. The villagers are demanding immediate action from local authorities to address the flooding that has affected their homes, schools, and infrastructure.

In Arya Nagar village, residents took to the Hisar–Bhadra State Highway, expressing their frustration with the district administration. The protestors highlighted that water has accumulated in their residential areas, severely impacting public amenities. According to local residents, essential services such as the government school, hospital, and nearby roads have been inundated, creating a hazardous environment for families.

Ranbir Gangwa, the Haryana Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), has personal ties to the village, further complicating the residents’ frustrations. The village falls within the Nalwa Assembly segment, which Gangwa represented during his tenure from 2019 to 2024 under the previous BJP government. Additionally, Chander Prakash, the current MLA for Adampur, is also from Arya Nagar, amplifying the residents’ concerns regarding the lack of action from their elected officials.

Protesters voiced their discontent, stating, “Roads, schools, power stations, houses, and fields remain submerged. People do not even have a dry path to reach their homes.” This sentiment reflects the broader dissatisfaction with the district administration’s inability to manage the water crisis effectively.

In response to the growing chaos caused by the blockade, law enforcement arrived at the scene to facilitate traffic, which had become severely congested due to the flooding. A police official assured residents that he would relay their concerns to the Irrigation Department and advocate for the installation of additional electric pumps to expedite the water removal process. Following these assurances, the blockade was lifted.

Protests Continue in Bhiwani District

Meanwhile, residents of Tigrana village in Bhiwani district also staged a roadblock to draw attention to their plight. They reported that the waterlogging had already caused significant damage to their agricultural fields and posed a threat to their homes.

Villagers expressed their frustrations about the lack of progress on resolving the situation. “We have taken up the issue with the district authorities, who assured us that water is being drained out. But the steps taken so far are not satisfactory, and the process needs to be expedited,” said one resident.

After receiving promises from local administrative officials, the residents of Tigrana village agreed to lift their roadblock. Both protests underscore the urgent need for effective drainage solutions in the affected areas. As the situation continues to evolve, residents remain hopeful that their concerns will be addressed in a timely manner.
