Tripura CM Manik Saha Prioritizes Janajati Areas for State Growth
Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized that the state’s development relies heavily on the progress of Janajati areas, announcing that over 40% of the budget for the 2025-26 financial year will be allocated to these regions. During a recent event, he inaugurated various projects aimed at empowering the Bru community and enhancing their economic prospects.
The Chief Minister made these remarks at the State Level Toolkits Distribution Ceremony for Skilled Bru Candidates. He also virtually inaugurated several infrastructure projects, including the new buildings for Chawmanu Class XII School, Chawmanu Fire Station, and the Executive Engineer of the Rural Development Department under the Manu RD Division.
Speaking to the attendees, CM Saha outlined the government’s commitment to supporting the Bru community through various initiatives. “Under the Swabalamban Yojana, we have flagged off six autos, with the government providing a subsidy of ₹1 lakh each,” he stated. The Chief Minister highlighted that skill development is crucial for economic sustainability, echoing sentiments expressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Bru camps.
The ongoing efforts to enhance the skills of the Reang people are part of broader initiatives, including the PM Kaushalya Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Dakkhata Yojana. These programs provide skill training aimed at enabling community members to secure stable employment. “Providing jobs is important, but empowering individuals with skills will ensure their independence,” CM Saha noted.
The Chief Minister addressed the historical context of Bru issues, remarking that previous governments failed to address their needs over the past 23 years. He asserted that since the formation of the BJP government in 2018, significant strides have been made in resolving these humanitarian concerns. “Our government is dedicated to your development and self-reliance,” he stated.
In terms of financial commitments, CM Saha revealed that the 2024-25 budget amounted to over ₹27,000 crore, with a significant portion—approximately 39.06%—earmarked for Janajati area development. For the upcoming year, he confirmed that the allocation would exceed 40%, focusing on education, sports, and healthcare.
The Chief Minister also discussed the Tripura Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2024, launched last year, which aims to train 35,000 candidates in various sectors, including artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and IT services. He mentioned that five youths have already been sent to Japan for skill development, with more expected to follow.
“While the opposition claims that we are not creating jobs, I urge them to listen to our initiatives and stop spreading negativity,” he said, reinforcing the government’s proactive stance.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma, and Director of Skill Development Department Pradeep K., highlighting a united front in addressing the needs of the Janajati communities.
With a clear focus on sustainable development and empowerment, the government of Tripura is taking significant steps to ensure that marginalized communities are included in the state’s growth narrative.
