TMC MLA’s Babri Masjid Claim Triggers Outrage and Threats
A recent declaration by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has sparked widespread outrage across India, igniting tensions just days before the highly anticipated flag hoisting at the Ram Mandir on November 25, 2025. Kabir announced plans to lay the foundation stone for a “Babri Masjid” in Murshidabad district on December 6, prompting a furious reaction from various religious leaders and political figures.
In a statement that has captured national attention, Kabir asserted, “We will lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid on December 6 in Beldanga, Murshidabad district. It will take three years to complete. Various Muslim leaders will participate in that event.” This declaration has drawn the ire of many, particularly from the Hindu community, which sees it as a direct challenge to the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ayodhya dispute.
Threats and Demands for Action
The controversy escalated dramatically when Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya, a prominent religious leader, announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for anyone who kills the MLA. He declared, “If even a single brick is laid anywhere in the name of Mughal invaders, that person will not be spared. We will not tolerate it.” Acharya’s vehement response reflects a broader sentiment among many who believe Kabir’s statement undermines national unity and disregards the judicial resolution of the Ayodhya issue.
Acharya called for the government to file sedition charges against Kabir and urged immediate arrest. Similarly, Ram Vilas Vedanti, a member of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, echoed these sentiments, stating, “No power in the world can now build another Babri Masjid anywhere in India.”
Reactions Across the Spectrum
In a notable turn of events, even Muslim leaders have condemned Kabir’s remarks. Iqbal Ansari, a key litigant in the Ayodhya case, emphasized the need for respect and unity, saying, “Temples and mosques are not places for politics. The Supreme Court gave its verdict on Ayodhya, which all Muslims respected.” He cautioned against political exploitation of religious sentiments for electoral gain, advocating instead for national loyalty and brotherhood among communities.
The timing of this controversy is particularly sensitive, as it comes just before the flag hoisting ceremony at the Ram Mandir, a significant event for many Hindus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to raise the flag atop the temple, marking a historic moment that many hope will foster reconciliation and unity. Yet, Kabir’s declaration risks undermining these efforts, reigniting tensions that many believed had been settled.
As the nation watches closely, the outcome of this controversy could have significant implications for communal relations in India. The reactions from both religious leaders and political figures indicate that this issue is far from resolved, and the potential for further conflict remains high.
