Security Increased at Vijay’s Home After Deadly Rally Stampede

Security measures have been significantly enhanced at the residence of actor and politician Vijay in Chennai following a tragic stampede at his rally in Karur that resulted in the deaths of 39 individuals and injuries to over 100 others. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the Tamil Nadu government, which has pointed to violations of safety protocols during the event.
The rally, which took place as Vijay’s party, the TVK, prepares for its electoral debut in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, was marred by chaos. Government sources indicated that inadequate arrangements for essential services such as drinking water and food contributed to the distress of attendees, leading to multiple fainting incidents among the crowd.
Reports suggest that Vijay arrived at the venue approximately seven hours late, with many supporters gathering from noon. His arrival after 19:00 local time coincided with a surge in crowd size, further exacerbating the situation. Eyewitnesses noted that supporters disregarded police guidelines, following his vehicle into the already congested area.
During the rally, some attendees reportedly collapsed while Vijay continued his speech, raising concerns about the lack of immediate medical assistance as ambulances were not permitted entry. After the event, Vijay departed for Trichy airport and returned to Chennai via a private flight.
In light of the public outrage toward the circumstances surrounding the stampede, security at Vijay’s home has been heightened. Officials fear that the anger of the community may be directed at him. A spokesperson for the TVK emphasized that the party had complied with all police regulations for the rally, asserting that Vijay is deeply affected by the tragedy.
In response to the incident, Vijay expressed his grief in a post on social media platform X, stating, “My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express.” He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, praying for the swift recovery of those receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and leader of the DMK, visited affected individuals at a local hospital and met with the families of those who lost their lives. He conveyed his sorrow in a post on X, reflecting on the profound pain experienced by the bereaved families.
As investigations into the circumstances of the stampede continue, the Tamil Nadu government is under pressure to ensure that safety protocols are strictly enforced at public events to prevent future tragedies.
